Leo Sayer Dusts Off Lost Album From Early ’90s

A period between 1990’s “Cool Touch” and “Voice in My Head” from 2005 was barren for Leo Sayer – or so it seemed from his followers’ point of view. At the time the singer was embroiled in a legal war with Chrysalis, trying to wrangle the publishing rights to his songs out of his erstwhile record label’s hands, and though the artist won the battle in the end, the songs he wrote in the early ’90s, about thirty pieces in all, and recorded in a solo mode in home studio, didn’t see the light of day. But they will – on November 29th.

1992

Whether the eight cuts that comprise “1992” are just the first installment of what will form a series of platters remains to be seen, but these come from a single timeframe and they had not been embellished in any way and remain exactly as they emerged after original mixing and overdubbing at London’s Mayfair Studios and Munich’s Touchdown Studios – only matching and mastering have been done recently. An important slice of history.
