Midge Ure Reports From The Albert Hall With Entire “Vienna”

Having witnessed Midge Ure‘s recent concert, this scribe can safely say that the Scottish artist doesn’t really need a big venue to capture the audience with his songs – yet the venue he performs in should be respectful to those songs, especially when “Dear God” and “Hymn” are its start and finale. But there’s a large venue able to provide such environment, and it was there that the legend’s forthcoming album “Royal Albert Hall: 04.10.23” was recorded at – to be issued on November 8th as a three-disc set of a CD and LP varieties.

That night in London Ure celebrated his 70th birthday with a performance which included acoustic and electric segments and spanned most of the projects Midge was involved in, so while it’s the staging of ULTRAVOX’s “Vienna” in full that, taking up one of the discs, will surely draw the listener’s attention, there are unexpected pieces – like Phil Lynott’s “Yellow Pearl” – the veteran’s fans got to hear, sung by him in the company of THE BAND ELECTRONICA, Ty Unwin and Caroline Dale. Preserved for posterity entirely, here’s one fantastic document, a testament to a great talent’s life in music.
