A guitarist’s guitarist, the influence of Lonnie Mack on the masters such as Jeff Beck, Duane Allman and Stevie Ray Vaughan cannot be overestimated. In his muscular melding of blues and bluegrass, he was a true rocker whose instrumental sides such “Wham!” and “Suzie Q” had a wide resonance which is heard today in many a wild, if vibrantly sensual, solo. Revered by the likes of Keith Richards, the veteran has been active for the most of his life that reached its finale on April 21st. Aged 74, Mack went to heaven on the same day as Prince. R.I.P.
