HIGHER GROUND
Some remember this singer from his Gary Moore days, for some he’s the one who made URIAH HEEP go astray, some can even hark back to a band called LONE STAR, but for some years John Sloman is an artist in his own right. Back into the action with 2003’s PRAYING MANTIS album, "The Journey Goes On", and 2004’s solo set, “Dark Matter”, now the great warbler went acoustic with “13 Storeys”. Recorded at home after a personal loss, with John playing all the instruments himself, the album is dark but…
THE COLORS STILL BRIGHT
There are some bands that don’t need to be existing to be exciting, RAINBOW one of them. No matter how often Ritchie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio repeat the chances even of one-off reunion are close to nothing, the rumors still circulate, and the nostalgia thrives. But there’s always something to indulge in this reverie. Last December saw the Japanese release of “Rainbow Live In Munich” DVD that’s set for European outing this summer, and June 13th is the date of the same set’s CD version’s coming on sale. The double disc package is a fascinating document of the line-up featuring Blackmore, Dio, Cozy Powell as well as Bob Daisley and David Stone who still were to record the “Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll” album in 1978. This show was recorded on October 20th, 1977 for the German Rockpalast TV show.

Japanese fans, though, sometimes feel more lucky than the ones abroad. This same summer they will have a chance to attend a show billed as “Tribute To Rainbow: Over The Rainbow” with the classic songs – among them “Spotlight Kid”, “I Surrender”, “Street Of Dreams”, “Stone Cold”, “Rainbow Eyes” and “Catch The Rainbow” – performed by the RAINBOW alumnus, Joe Lynn Turner accompanied by the New Japan Philharmonic. The orchestra is to play the band’s instrumental pieces as well.
THE BLUES COME CALLING
Ten years after Rory Gallagher‘s death, the interest to the greatest guitarist the Eire gave birth to is on the rise. Now, after the top-notch Rockpalast set, forth come two other DVD packages.
The first, “Live At The Cork Opera House”, previously available on VHS, documents Rory’s homecoming concert during his 1987’s “Defender” tour. Gallagher’s late ’80s – early ’90s performances weren’t always fine yet this one’s really good.

The second set, “Live At Montreux”, comes from the legendary Montreux Festival, even though the tracklisting differs from the recordings that’ve been in circulation for years. Gallagher took the Swiss stage several times, so one disc of the collection features tracks from 1975, 1977, 1979 and 1985, with acoustic pieces from these years gathered as bonus material to complement the entire 1994’s show that’s the bulk of the other disc. Why not put everything out, then? What’s nice, though, is that the “Live At Montreux” series sees more and more performances released – from Gary Moore, DEEP PURPLE, Rory…

ALWAYS ON THE RUN
With BAD COMPANY kept in high regard, it’s just amazing that there’s no official concert recording from the original line-up. To fix the problem, “Live Albuquerque, NM USA – 1976” is out in June. Recorded during their “Burnin’ Through America” tour – that’s before the “Burning Sky” LP was out – the tape and the photos which illustrate come the booklet from the guitarist Mick Ralphs’ personal collection.
