MOUNTAIN’s Corky Laing goes operatic

Mostly known as Leslie West’s cohort in MOUNTAIN and Jack Bruce’s rhythm section partner, drummer Corky Laing might have missed the Woodstock performance yet he played on many a band’s classic songs and co-wrote many of them including the immortal “Mississippi Queen.” But there’s more facets to the man and, to show another of these, Laing comes up with a rock opera that deals moral problems of gene technology, titled “Test”, which serves as a basis for the “Playing God” album.

Sharing the views of modern philosophers Matti Häyry and Tuija Takala, who are the veteran’s co-conspirators behind this so called “crossover between academic research and rock”, and inviting Finnish musicians for company, Corky sings and drums here. Also featured on this concept album, out under the PERFCT CHILD name, are TANG’s guitar heroine Denny Colt and SPIN DOCTORS’ own Eric Schenkman, who CORK, a group Laing had with the late great Noel Redding. An interesting project, one to watch out for.
