It’s been almost five decades since Nils Lofgren started out as a solo artist in his own right, yet the veteran’s archive, bursting at the seams, contains pieces dating back even longer than that, and although his latest album was issued less than a year ago, the legendary musician decided, without much ado, to release an archival collection. What was unveiled on digital platforms on March 9th consists of, in his words, songs left behind: demos and outtakes.
Titled “Spares” and comprising the whopping 31 tracks, it’s an interesting run through the years – especially for Lofgren’s aficionados who are familiar with at least one cut, “Dance Of Life” which features Lou Gramm (listen below), as this piece originally surfaced on 1994’s single, but for the most part Nils’ cache of gems was never heard. Sadly, the booklet doesn’t offer details of the recordings on display – and there’s no talk at the moment of their physical outing.
