Once the news emerged on Nils Lofgren having worked on new music through the pandemic and letting some of the fresh songs now on the recently mentioned joint platter with his CRAZY HORSE mates, everyone knew it was only a matter of time before each of the veterans release a solo album – and Lofgren’s time comes on July 21st when “Mountains” will be issued.
Clocking in in less than 40 minutes, Nils’ new offering features nine new pieces and his take on Springsteen’s “Back In Your Arms” that Lofgren didn’t play on originally – yet the album’s relative shortness is made up for by the presence of stellar guests, including Ringo Starr, David Crosby, who passed away soon after the recording was finished, and Neil Young, plus Ron Carter and a few other prominent artists. The outcome should be interesting even without them, but they make scaling “Mountains” an irresistible proposition.
