Phil Lynott’s GRAND SLAM Legacy Sees A Box Set

Set against the abundance of available THIN LIZZY material, the amount music Phil Lynott set to create when his principal band ceased to exist may be called meager, and the great late artist’s stint and output with THE THREE MUSKETEERS and, more importantly, GRAND SLAM are the least explored, in terms of releases, pages of his life, in spite of the fact that “Dedication” – one of pieces composed and performed with the latter ensemble – would lend its title to 1991 compilation of his main collective’s works. The works that are to be anthologized in a box set “Slam Anthems” on June 9th.

John Wetton And David Cross Reunited On A Take On GENESIS Hit

A quarter-century has passed since “The Fox Lies Down” – one of the most memorable tributes to GENESIS – saw the light of day. Among that star-studded album’s highlights was a breathtaking version of “Your Own Special Way” – delivered by John Wetton‘s honeyed voice – that got a new lease of live a few days ago, when the great late artist reunited with his erstwhile colleague David Cross.

APPICE-PERDOMO PROJECT Opt For A Repeated Blast

When Carmine Appice and Fernando Perdomo join forced to deliver the groovy "Energy Overload" album back in 2021, it was obvious the collaboration between the legendary drummer and in-demand guitarist wouldn’t be a one-off events. It was a joint effort that, in Fern’s words, “yielded nearly two full albums” even during the initial sessions. No wonder, then, in the pair’s return on May 26th with a follow-up record titled “Running Up That Hill” and featuring the Kate Bush perennial which gave it this title.

Rock Poet Keith Reid Passed Away

“I always try and make the words for my songs sound poetic and have a lot of meaning, but I never think of them as being poems. I think of them more as my statements,”: that’s what the great Keith Reid, who died of cancer on March 23rd at the age of 76, told this scribe when asked about whether he viewed himself as a poet or a lyricist. Keith wanted to be seen as the latter yet, of course, he belonged in pantheon of the former and should have been praised if only for the immortal imagery of “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” – the first fruit of Reid’s long-term partnership with singing pianist Gary Brooker that announced the advent of PROCOL HARUM to the world which fell in love with the surrealistic ballad.

Neil Young Joins CRAZY HORSE Colleagues On A New Effort

With a single exception, nobody has played in CRAZY HORSE as long as Nils Lofgren, bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina – that’s without counting Neil Young, as he and the band used to exist not only together but also separately. Of course, all of the veterans had to work on their own during the pandemic, which is the reason why the platter the Molina, Talbot and Lofgren decided to compile afterwards, each contributing three pieces, doesn’t bear the ensemble’s name yet is rather credited to its creators. And it’s not limited to nine songs.
