The greatest living pop-rock musician: behind the legend that is Paul McCartney lies a lot of great music many tend to forget or not know about. Thankfully, among Macca’s fans are a lot of his colleagues, old and new, who used to follow Paul through the years and cover his songs once, or maybe twice, in a while. Some didn’t do that, though, but are doing it now, delivering the most impressive tribute to the Liverpudlian to overshadow all the previous homages.
Out on November 17th, “The Art Of McCartney” features a host of top-notch performers, including Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson and KISS, plus Smokey Robinson whose songs THE BEATLES used to cover, playing with McCartney’s own band – his MD, keyboardist Wix Wickens, guitarists Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray, and drummer, Abe Laboriel, Jr – under the guidance of producer Ralph Sall. The latter first worked with the Beatle in 2003, reworking “A Love For You” from the “Ram” sessions for “The In-Laws” OST, and then asked Paul for the support of a tribute project that now came to a fruition, spearheaded by THE CURE‘s take on “Hello Goodbye” with James McCartney on keys, the single available for download already – for those who pre-order the album.
Great as it is, there’s also a deluxe boxed edition of “The Art Of McCartney” containing 3CD, DVD, two pieces of artwork exclusively commissioned from Alan Aldridge, the most famous illustrator of The Fabs’ songs, an illustrated guide to the creation of the homage, a specially designed Hofner-bass-shaped USB with the album in lossless, flac files, four colored vinyl platters and four art cards. The set is to be out only on the December 15th, yet those who pre-order it will receive a free 34-track mp3-download alongside the rest of them, on November 17th.
