Given Paul Rodgers‘ creative longevity, it’s almost impossible to believe that the legendary singer’s solo oeuvre numbers only five studio records, his debut platter “Cut Loose” – laid down with no other musicians on board – emerging as far back as four decades ago, in 1983. More so, two out of these handful albums – 1993’s “Muddy Water Blues” and "The Royal Sessions" from 2014, the veteran’s latest offering – were, comprised of covers, save for the former tribute’s titular track, meaning 2000’s "Electric" was Rodgers’ last display of original pieces. Yet it will become Paul’s penultimate one on September 22nd when “Midnight Rose” is bound to be released.
Scheduled for issue on Sun Records on CD and vinyl, it’s a rather short, if extremely tasty, run of eight songs whose titles will remind the British warbler’s aficionados of such his classics as “Straight Shooter” and “Highway” to name but two, with the first single off “Midnight Rose” available for listening now – see the video below. No wonder, though, as the list of its producers includes Bob Rock and PR’s wife Cynthia, and among the players are his fellow Canadians, bassist Todd Ronning and drummer Rick Fedyk, both of KING KARMA fame.
