Over the years, there’s been a number of tribute album released paying respects to Leonard Cohen, and a lot of cover versions of the poet laureate’s most famous songs, with two records standing out amid those: 1991’s “I’m Your Fan” and “Tower Of Song” from 1995 which saw such superstars as Elton John and Nick Cave delivering his classics. The latter platter also featured Peter Gabriel singing “Suzanne” – and it’s the English veteran that recorded the title track for the forthcoming homage to the late great Canadian, “Here It Is” – another multi-artist effort where the likes of Iggy Pop take part as well.
Running from Cohen’s early output to his last-ever pieces, the dozen songs on offer come rendered by musicians as different as Bill Frisell and Mavis Staples, making the result highly alluring.
