When Peter Gabriel took his “New Blood Tour” to Arena di Verona in October 2010, it was to play two sets: one of covers and the other of his own songs, following the template of “Scratch My Back” and “New Blood” albums and wrapping the songs from those records in orchestral arrangements. The Italian show was filmed, as directed by the veteran’s daughter Anna, and streamed, about five years later, in two parts, titled “Scratch My Back” and “Taking The Pulse” and never issued on physical media. This is to be remedied, though, with the October 10th release of the “Taking The Pulse” Blu-ray.
Yes, it’s only the second part of the concert, presented on PCM stereo and DTS HD and comprised of Peter’s own songs, with his versions of other people’s material left off – presumably, to save on copyright. Given that Gabriel has just put out “Live At WOMAD 1982” and that the deluxe edition of “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” is on the go, the decision to overload the market seems quite questionable – which can’t be said of the Verona’s performance quality, of course.
