Robert Fripp Marks His Birthday By Releasing Writings And Recordings

Yesterday, on May 16th, 2026, the great Robert Fripp became 80 years young. To celebrate this milestone, the guitarist announced an array of his writings and his band’s rare recordings are being made available on different platforms, in particular Substack and Nugs.

On Substack, there will be Fripp’s essays, insights and quotes – his usual witty, and often cryptic, writings that have been captivating KING CRIMSON fans for decades, when some of those pieces appeared as part of liner notes and, later, online missives.

On Nugs, Discipline Global Mobile set out to present a Fripp@80 series that will run at least till the end of the year, on a weekly basis. It’s a run of digital releases from Robert’s solo and collaborative career, with his and David Singleton’s commentaries added to many of the cuts. The first offering is the documents of six concerts the quartet then known as DISCIPLINE played in spring of 1981 in Europe before RF decided to revert it to his previous group’s moniker.

Quite a way to celebrate!
