Never a stranger to an inspired cover, Robert Plant has been sporadically raiding other writers’ repertoire since “Dreamland” was out back in 2002, with both his albums with Alison Krauss – 2007’s “Raising Sand” and “Raise The Roof” from 2021 – based on borrowed material. As of the veteran’s solo offerings, his last interpretational collection was 2010’s “Band Of Joy” – and Percy’s forthcoming platter is going to pick up where that one left off, rather than from his last one, “Carry Fire” from 2017.
Seven years seemed like a long wait for Plant’s listeners, yet “Saving Grace” – which began gestating during the pandemic and will finally see the light of day on September 26th – should compensate for it. Accompanied by such kindred spirits as singer Suzi Dian and guitarist Tony Kelsey, Robert delves in folk tradition with pieces sourced from Blind Willie Johnson and Bob Dylan, but also from THE LOW ANTHEM: a lot to expect and enjoy, then.
