It was an open secret that the next expanded release in THE BEATLES‘ reissue programme would be “Revolver” – arguably, their strangest album, in which crunchy social commentary of “Taxman” rubs shoulders with the mindboggling psychedelia of “Tomorrow Never Knows” and childish infectiousness of “Yellow Submarine” sits alongside lush balladry of “Here, There And Everywhere” – so the gradual leaking of information during last weeks shouldn’t have surprised any aficionado. The details weren’t available, though, until now, when the actual breakdown of the super deluxe box set and lesser format has been unveiled, and the release date was set for October 28th.
There’s neither DVD nor Blu-ray added to the five CDs – the last one comprising different mixes of a single that accompanied the 1966 album – yet new stereo mix prepared with the technology Peter Jackson used for “Get Back” to separate what was on a single tape and montage it afresh feels fantastic (watch the video below), while the session recordings and original mono will satisfy any fan. Unfortunately, the price tag for the set, even with a hardback book, is not so listener-friendly.
