There are many gratifying aspects to THE ROLLING STONES concert releases of, at least, last ten years, a few salient points being formats’ variety, affordable prices and total chronological unpredictability, all of it checking the boxes with the veterans’ forthcoming release “Live At The Wiltern” that’s scheduled for March 8th and documents the band’s November 2002 show in Los Angeles. It was the set which focused on rarely performed classics, with several hits thrown in for good measure.
This is the reason for plucking the recording that’s not so far removed in calendar from the group’s latest archival offering, “Licked Live in NYC” – preserved for posterity in January of 2003 and issued in 2022 – because there were only seven pieces common to both nights. More so, 2002’s rendition of “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” features Solomon Burke, whose shining presence is one of the best moment on the album which will be out as 3LP, 2CD, 2CD/DVD and 2CD/Blu-ray sets. Inessential yet interesting.
