Numbering only twelve studio platters, Warren Zevon‘s creative legacy is, nevertheless, immense, but that somehow hasn’t been reflected in his concert recordings: for the artist who had been touring from 1976 almost until his untimely passing in 2003, two live albums aren’t enough. Finally, though, there’s going to be a third chapter in the saga started in in 1980 with “Stand In The Fire” and continued with “Learning To Flinch” in 1993: November 28th and December 5th will see the appearance – respectively, on vinyl, for Record Store Day, and CD – of “Epilogue: Live At The Edmonton Folk Music Festival” which documents the late troubadour’s last-ever show.
When Warren walked up on the Canadian stage, it was only his third outing of the year, yet the veteran not only promoted his then-recent release, “My Ride’s Here” from 2002 – off which Zevon appropriately for the place plucked “Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)” and delivered this piece with a lot of gusto, but also previewed – by unveiling ” Dirty Life And Times” – “The Wind” that would hit the shelves ten days before his death on September 7th, 2003. Of course, Warren also performed classics, including “Werewolves Of London” and other perennials, and he also added the evergreen “Canadee-i-o” as a finale, so “Epilogue” is a really unique thing. Strangely, there’s no video disc attached to this, given the footage exists.
