Swamp Dogg Hosts Vernon Reid On “Blackgrass”

May 3, 2024

One of the most influential movers on the soul and blues scene without whom even rap wouldn’t be the same as we know it, Swamp Dogg might have turned into an octogenarian a couple of years ago, yet there’s no slowing down the man possessed not only of musical talents but also of fantastic sense of humor that was first manifested on his 1970 debut “Total Destruction To Your Mind” and 1971’s famously sleeved “Rat On!” and last on “I Need A Job…So I Can Buy More Auto-Tune” in 2022. And now, the veteran has prepared a new album for release on May 31st.

MOTÖRHEAD Unleash Alternative Cut Of Their Shameless Comp

May 2, 2024

Issued four decades ago, “No Remorse” was the greatest introduction to MOTÖRHEAD lore possible, the double LP presenting the band’s best moments to the date, augmenting those with a smattering of fresh cuts. Fast forward forty years, and releasing it for the fourth time, bonuses or not, wouldn’t feel right, what with Lemmy’s ensemble having produced a lot of fine material after the collection’s original appearance. Which is why the arrival of its alternative version a couple of weeks ago, for the Record Store Day 2024, seemed more than welcome – only people not inclined to hunt festive vinyl were a tad disappointed, so finally “Remorse? No!” – that’s the title of this comp – will be out on CD as well.

Sandy Denny’s Concert Set Sees An Official Release

May 1, 2024

Lately, multi-disc box sets became if not the norm then the offering that doesn’t raise brows, yet the 19CD collection of Sandy Denny‘s works made a lot of her fans gasp back in 2010 – only what was supposed to be the late great songstress’ complete anthology turned out not be as definitive. Over subsequent years, a few other archival tapes saw the light of day, and the latest of those appeared rather recently, which is quite surprising given how long the material released now as “Live & Solo: Ebbets Field, Denver, April 29th, 1973” circulated on bootlegs.

Robin George Passed Away

April 30, 2024

“My most enjoyable job – and I’ve done a lot of different jobs to make a living – is making music. That’s what I do best”: Robin George‘s voice was barely heard over the din of a Wolverhampton pub which the British guitarist had chosen as an unfortunate locale for our conversation. Actually, we were to meet near the city’s bus station, yet Robin though it would be the railroad one, the result being a frantic attempt to connect at a time when mobile phones didn’t work so well, and a serious delay in our schedules. That mix-up seemed so typical for him, the artist who used to arrive at a potentially successful situation a little bit too late, and miss his chance for stardom time and again. Still, George didn’t miss his chance to leave this world as a force many had to reckon with, and passed away after long illness on April 26th, aged 68.

THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS Fly Back With Fab Guests

April 29, 2024

One could be forgiven for thinking THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS have become a legacy ensemble, touring on the strength of their former glories and not possessing the strength to come up with a fresh record – after all, the veterans, last was out eight years ago, and a follow-up to the robust “Strong Like That” didn’t seem to be in the cards. Until now, that is, as June 27th will see the release of the album marking their 50th anniversary and finding the band host quite a few distinguished fans.
