A mainstay of American blues scene, Bob Margolin is hard to miss in “The Last Waltz” film even among the many stars who grace the stage alongside THE BAND, when the guitarist appears next to Muddy Waters in whose ensemble he played from 1973 to 1980. And it’s the fiftieth anniversary of this stint that the veteran celebrates on his forthcoming album “Thanks” which will be out October 27th.
The record is a collection of blisteringly delivered – on the same Gibson archtop electric guitar that Bob used on Muddy’s platters and on Johnny Winters’ “Nothin’ But the Blues” – staples of Margolin’s chosen genre, including the pieces he performed with Waters, among them one they co-wrote, and Pinetop Perkins, as well as a few of his own numbers, recently refreshed, and a Robbie Robertson classic. It’s impossible to go wrong with this old master and this tracklist, so the listener is in for a treat.
