Not a member of the mysterious folk troupe’s classic line-up, Clive Palmer, who passed away on November 23rd, aged 71, was one of THE INCREDIBLE STRING BAND‘s co-founders. It was him who joined forces with Robin Williamson and drew Joe Boyd’s attention before the two decided to expand their ranks and added Mike Heron to the party before recording the ensemble’s self-titled debut and then breaking up. While his former colleagues found fame, if not fortune, in a quartet with two female singers, Palmer journeyed to the East and, upon return to the U.K., became a teacher and a leader of such collectives as THE FAMOUS JUG BAND, C.O.B. and THE CLIVE PALMER BAND, sometimes reuniting with Mike and Robin. A cult figure, he will be warmly remembered by many.
