David Coverdale and WHITESNAKE might be pretty much synonymous entities, yet there have been an occasional divergence between the two, when the singer would step on a solo path, starting with his 1977 individual debut… titled “Whitesnake” to later create a bit of confusion for a non-aficionado. It took the ex-DEEP PURPLE warbler another effort, the “Northwind” LP from 1978, to realize he wanted an ensemble environment and start a new tean, and though the veteran was in two minds, crediting “Restless Heart” to both his own and the group’s name back in 1997, but 2000’s "Into The Light" saw David outside of the collective once again. That’s why it’s quite surprising to see that the forthcoming box set comprised of Coverdale’s personal records bears the band’s legend on the cover – and the title of this, his last platter.
Planned for release on October 25th, the six CDs “Into The Light: The Solo Albums” should feel just fantastic, what with the inclusion of not only freshly remixed versions of “Whitesnake” and “Northwinds” but also the remasters of their original mixes, and the same goes for the titular record whose context is expanded with work-in-progress takes and demos, quite a few with Tony Franklin on bass, while DC’s early sketches give this offering an additional depth. Indispensable.
