It’s almost impossible to believe but no less than seventeen years have passed since Tony Levin delivered his last solo album, “Stick Man” – but then, what the veteran’s business with KING CRIMSON, STICK MEN and LEVIN BROTHERS, touring with Peter Gabriel, and endless sessions of which one landed in today’s news, he hardly could concentrate on personal material. But now he did, and the record titled “Bringing It Down To The Bass” will be released on September 13th.
For all its solo intent, though, Levin’s fresh opus is a collaborative one, featuring a stellar line-up of instrumentalists which includes not only brother Pete on piano and erstwhile taskmaster Robert Fripp in soundscape department, but also drummers Steve Gadd, Mike Portnoy, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jerry Marotta, Jeremy Stacey, Pat Mastelotto and Gary Husband, guitarists David Torn, Earl Slick, Markus Reuter and Steve Hunter, and Larry Fast on keyboards. The results promise to be stunning – yet, then, hasn’t it always been like this with Tony?
