Elkie Brooks Unplugs For Farewell Album

Almost a quarter of a century after her “Powerless” saw the light of day, Elkie Brooks’ fans may have still harbor hope of the great chanteuse returning to the studio when “The Long Farewell Tour” allows her to step away from the stage, but one should assume that’s unlikely to happen. Still, Ms. Brooks doesn’t want her followers to feel abandoned, and November 22nd was the day when she issued what can be her last-ever offering: “Live & Acoustic” – an album with a telling title.

Preserved for posterity on it is Elkie’s 2021 performance at the “Landmark Theatre” in North Devon, one of her favorite venues, where the singer delivered a stunning acoustic set of her own classics, “Pearl’s A Singer” and “Lilac Wine” among them, as well as a few covers and blues staples, accompanied by Tom Kincaid on piano and Mike Smith on sax. A must-have document, out as CD and two-LPs, to say the least.
