There have many highlights in FOGHAT‘s decades-spanning history, and yet the band’s fifth album, “Fool For The City” from 1975, stands out – not in the least because it contains the hit single “Slow Ride” which became a perennial favorite almost immediately upon the platter’s release. It’s also the ensemble’s only longplay to feature their producer Nick Jameson – interview with whom should grace this space soon – in a full-time bassist role, but of course, what made the record so special was its songs – five originals and two covers – with a cover artwork picturing drummer Roger Earl as an urban fisherman adding memorability to the classic offering. Reissued numerous times, the evergreen’s various editions remained single-disc propositions, so another one, slated for September 12th, will be worth noticing.
Sadly, there are no uncovered studio tracks to augment the fresh remaster that the first CD comprises, but the concert recordings from 1975 on the second flesh it out rather nicely. Perhaps, not the treatment the 50th Anniversary warrants, yet quite alluring anyway.
