Less than a year after Fred Frith offered his fans not one but two fresh collaborations, he’s ready to present another one. This time the British multi-instrumentalist conspired with the Kreusch brothers, fellow guitarist Johannes Tonio and pianist Cornelius Claudio, to create a tuneful suite that explores reflective moods via drone and repetition which, nevertheless, propel the listener’s focus forward. Still, it’s all about spontaneity and playing around with various techniques and aural post-modernism, where constructing and deconstructing sound follow and complement each other.
Out on September 4th, “Pink / Neon” is a sprawling sonic cityscape which occupies two discs that can be seen as part of the titular dichotomy, even though the record’s 14 pieces don’t exactly correspond to it.
