Never a consumer-friendly practice, tour editions of various records may target, first of all, genuine aficionados but also affect regular fans who feel cheated, having bought an album only to find its expanded variant on sale at concerts and being made to purchase a platter afresh, especially when additions are minimal. Thankfully, GONG feel eager to give their followers something tangential for the money the punters will fork out after September 20th, when 2023’s "Unending Ascending" will see a white-sleeved reissue.
Added to the album’s original tracklist are six pieces preserved for posterity in Scotland capital’s “Summerhall” on March 23rd of this year. Five of those are live takes on cuts off “Unending Ascending” while the sixth bears an Italian title which, if it’s not a mistake, is just the band’s classic performed on that day alongside newer material.
