HAWKWIND Give “Hall Of The Mountain Grill” A New Dimension

It’s quite sad, really, that the news of HAWKWIND‘s “Hall Of The Mountain Grill” getting a belated 50th anniversary overhaul comes on the heels of other news, that of the passing of Simon House whose debuted with the band on this album. But it’s also a celebration of his, and his colleagues, talents, because what they concocted remains a solid classic without which the tremendous "Warrior On The Edge Of Time" wouldn’t have been possible. That’s why the reissue planned for August 29th should not be ignored.

There will be three formats: a CD comprising a fresh remaster of the platter, with a smattering of bonus tracks, a vinyl LP with a 12-inch 45 rpm EP, and a massive box set that, in fact, could be a bit lighter and, thus, cheaper. Surely, nobody must complain about the seven CDs which deepen the album’s context with no less than three concerts, two – including the recording of a benefit for Timothy Leary, where the Hawks’ former singer Robert Calvert guested – previously unreleased and one newly mixed by Stephen W Tayler, yet the contents of two Blu-rays, detailed below, could easily fit on a single disc. No stereo remix this time, either, but the deluxe edition seems enticing.
