1970’s “Volume One” by THE HUMAN BEAST has been bearing a cult classic status for decades, this album’s original copies on Decca still exchanging hands for thousand of dollars, but it’s not really an obscure item now that there were a few digital releases. What’s obscure is the fact of singer Lynden Williams almost joining the ranks of SKIN who would assume the aforementioned name afterwards, when two thirds of the ensemble voted in favor of inviting the standalone vocalist and one said nay. As a result, the warbler went on to front JERUSALEM, appearing on their eponymous longplay – only he’s never forgotten the missed opportunity, and recently recorded the trio’s platter anew.
Accompanied by friends who worked with him on the DECKCHAIR POETS and ZORBONAUTS projects – including SPOCK’S BEARD’s rhythm section of Nick D’Virgilio and Dave Meros – plus Martin Orford, Williams turned psychedelia into contemporary prog, with a cover of GOLDEN EARRING’s “Are You Receiving Me” thrown in for good measure. There’s no word of physical issue of Lynden’s latest effort, yet a digital one is already available.
