Despite quite a few platters which MATTHEWS SOUTHERN COMFORT released over the decades, it’s their cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” that defined this band for many a follower. Of course, Iain Matthews didn’t play at Yasgur’s farm, yet his being on the other side of the Atlantic in August 1969 doesn’t prevent the veteran and his band from releasing “The Woodstock Album” today, on April 21st.
A collection of 15 songs, the record may miss another go at the group’s inaugural hit; instead, there are fresh takes of the songs that were performed at the legendary festival. The idea was born in 2022, when the ensemble wanted to get back in touring shape and decided to issue an entire album – a follow-up to 2020’s "The New Mine" – which could reconnect their present to the past. From MSC’s versions of Joe Cocker’s perennial to the age-defining number from THE WHO, it’s a great timewarp – watch the trailer below.
1. With A Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker)
2. Bad Moon Rising (CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL)
3. Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix)
4. 4 + 20 (CSN&Y)

6. Goin’ Up The Country (CANNED HEAT)
