NEW ORDER Opt For All-Inclusive “Brotherhood” But Lose Some Bits

Eager to pander to everybody and trying to make the most of post-punk and electronica that seemed to be becoming a thing of the past in 1988, NEW ORDER found an interesting way to please the listener on their fourth full-length platter: the ensemble simply split it stylistically down the middle – or, in vinyl terms, more or less divided the genre-specific cuts between the sides. Not that it helped the record much, but the “Bizarre Love Triangle” single which sat at its center helped the foursome finally found favor in America. Whether their audience will favor the album’s “Definitive Edition” remains to be seen, though.

Planned for release on November 22nd, the box set in question is another mixed-media affair in which a vinyl LP gets thrown together with two CDs and two DVDs containing 2024 remaster of the album and a plethora of audio and video material – including two concerts, yet omitting a few numbers that appeared on 2008 Collector’s Edition bonus disc and a couple of tracks that are out on the same day as vinyl singles. So much for it being definitive, then.
