GOLDEN EARRING Widen Their “Cut”

A Dutch prog band switching to hard rock only to reconnect to their pop roots may result in anything but it’s very unlikely the outcome will be a Top 10 smash on “Billboard” charts and stay in American hit-parades for more than six month. Yet that’s what happened when GOLDEN EARRING issued their sixteenth album – laconically titled “Cut” – and put on the platter a memorable epic “Twilight Zone” which would be shortened for a single release and an accompanying video, a staple of MTV programmes. No less importantly, the record revitalized the band who planned to bow out after a subsequent tour, and they carried on until 2021, so there’s no need for a better reason to expand the 1982 classic for a deluxe edition.

SIMPLE MINDS Revive Old Dream On A Concert Record

It took SIMPLE MINDS, one of the best bands born in Scotland, five years to become a household name and make the faces of singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill rather recognizable, and it wasn’t until their fifth album, “New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84)” from 1982, that the ensemble’s popularity spread around the world and influenced their peers U2 who, in awe of the Glaswegians’ sound, created “The Unforgettable Fire” in this platter’s mold. Over the years, they played quite a few pieces off it on stage, but the thought of performing the entire record in concert didn’t cross the veterans’ minds – and then it did, on their 2008 tour.

MADNESS Stage A Play On A New Album

It’s been seven years since MADNESS delivered “Can’t Touch Us Now” and entered a period of inner turmoil that threatened to disintegrate the band who seemed to be losing their usual social-commentary edge in favor of good-time ska. Still, the 1978 line-up which recorded the platter found the strength to get their act together in the early 2023 to proclaim, “Let madness be madness!” and come up with what can be the collective’s most ambitious project ever.

BRINSLEY SCHWARZ’s Entire Output To Be Boxed Up

Perhaps, it’s not too easy to explain the sonic concept of pub-rock, yet why try to if one can simply put on any platter by BRINSLEY SCHWARZ? Unpretentiousness is rarely as impressively infectious as in this British band’s songs – tightly crammed into the six albums they issued between 1970 and 1974 and one record that saw the release more than a decade later. And now all the material the ensemble recorded will be collected in a box set.

Bernie Marsden’s Final Album To Be Out

The great Bernie Marsden sadly passed away last month, yet it turns out that he had managed to record a fresh album earlier this year, the platter titled “Working Man” – for the guitarist always kept busy – and ready for release, on CD and vinyl, on November 24th. There’s a dozen new tracks on the record, his regular highly infectious blend of blues and hard rock, and there’s also a bonus disc.
