Bettye LaVette To Duet With Steve Winwood

Even in our age of occasional revitalizing of old glories soul divas rarely make impressive comebacks, yet that’s exactly what the great Bettye LaVette has been doing at least in the last five years, since the singer started working with producer Steve Jordan, a drummer of some renown who’s working with THE ROLLING STONES now. Their third common effort, simply titled “LaVette!” and slated for release on June 16th, may follow in the stylistic wake of “Things Have Changed” and “Blackbirds” – but there’s a twist.

A prominent two-tone scenester, Rhoda Dakar is most famous for fronting THE BODYSNATCHERS, backing THE SPECIALS, fronting THE SPECIAL AKA and being a prominent feminist figure on the English ska and new wave landscape of the ’80s, yet the singer’s solo career has always been overshadowed by her glorious past. But the veteran’s forthcoming album, appearing eight years after “Rhoda Dakar Sings The Bodysnatchers” – where she performed familiar tunes – may change fans’ perception of this artist.

Toyah To Bring Out The Audio Of Her Drury Lane Concert

Even though, in the eyes of the uninitiated, Toyah‘s latter-day endeavors may seem to suggest she’s content to be cavorting in the kitchen with her spouse, the singer’s histrionic performances have always been much more than such domestic scenes. It’s rather surprising, then, that, for all the years she spent on-stage, there’s not a lot of records which captured the chanteuse live, but there are concert videos to allow Ms. Willcox to remedy this situation. Last year saw the reissue of her 1981’s “At The Rainbow” album on CD and DVD, and now it’s time for 1982’s “Good Morning Universe” to follow suit.

Jimmy Barnes Bolsters His New Band With Jools Holland

Nowadays, when supergroups are plenty and most of these are one-off efforts, some of such collectives still deserve paying attention to, and THE BARNESTORMERS surely do. Helmed by Jimmy Barnes – whose first live album, from 1988, was titled “Barnestorming” and who, with the LIVING LOUD project behind him, is no stranger to star-studded enterprises – it’s a remarkable embarkment, because there’s a rockabilly tinge to the ensemble’s sound. No wonder, given the band’s guitarist and drummer are, respectively, THE LIVING END’s Chris Cheney and THE STRAY CATS’ Slim Jim Phantom, with famous producer Kevin Shirley handling bass and Jools Holland piano.
