It’s hard to find any logic in the Paul McCartney reissue programme: the deluxe editions of his post-Fabs albums, solo and with WINGS, often clash with THE BEATLES’ offerings, vie for the fan’s attention when released in pairs, have either full-size or panel-like reproduction of a record’s cover on their slipcase – and, it turns out, aren’t definitive at all. If it was a stray track that didn’t make it into such a souvenir before and was available as a download only, an expanded “Flowers In The Dirt” – a magnificent 1988 work which will be out om March 24th, 2017 as 2CD, 2LP or 3CD+DVD, plus books, editions – leave out an entire collection of B-sides and remixes. Given the price tag attached to it, and the abundance of Paul’s then-collaborator Elvis Costello’s demos fleshed out by Macca on display (some of them delayed until “Off The Ground”), quite unfair.
