Shawn Phillips’ 1976 Show To Get Unleashed

There are many stylistic sides to Shawn Phillips‘ oeuvre, and whether it’s folk-informed songs or complex progressive rock tapestries this artist weaves, the element of unpredictability is what makes each of his platters and shows special. Ever-spellbinding on-stage, the American legend’s cache of concert albums is scarce, making 2022’s "Live In The Seventies" a precious artifact, even though the tracks gathered there didn’t represent a single full gig. But a double-CD set titled “Outrageous” that’s to be issued on October 11th will.

Recorded at Armadillo World Headquarters in January 1976, shortly before “Rumplestiltskin’s Resolve” – a couple of its pieces would be performed that night – was out, this unique document, sourced from the original 1″ multitrack tapes, finds the veteran, accompanied by his regular collaborator, ivories master J. Peter Robinson, deliver the picks of Phillips’ previously released material and launch into two soaring improvisations. A must-have proposition.
