Sixty Years After Her Debut, P. P. Arnold Issues First Live Album

Six decades in an awfully long time for a professional musician to dare deliver a concert platter, yet P. P. Arnold has been courageous all her life, from the time she was an Ikette, before moving to work with the likes of Steve Marriott and Nick Drake, sing on the original “Jesus Christ Superstar” album, and see her own record produced by Barry Gibb only to languish on a shelf for years, until her recent revival with 2019’s “The New Adventures Of…” which temporarily finished what 1967’s “The First Lady Of Immediate” had put in motion. So nobody could blame the chanteuse for the absence of an on-stage entry in her discography – especially now that a disc, or two in vinyl variant, titled “Live In Liverpool” is planned for release on October 18th.

Documenting the last night of Patricia’s “New Adventures” tour at Grand Central Hall, Liverpool, that took place on October 18th, 2019 – and to be issued exactly five years after the show – and featuring a nine-strong band which included her esteemed collaborator Steve Cradock on guitar, it spans Arnold’s entire career. Of course, there are fresh takes on “The First Cut Is The Deepest” – her version of the Cat Stevens evergreen was the song’s first official outing – and “Angel Of The Morning” alongside such new pieces as a cover of Paul Weller’s “Shoot The Dove” and her own “Hold On To Your Dreams” as well as classic tunes by Lennon-McCartney and Sandy Denny. An essential offering.
