Steve Hackett’s Classic Updated For Charity

“Spectral Mornings” is a gem of Steve Hackett‘s canon, but the title track of his 1979 album has never been a song per se – until now when the classic instrumental was given words to become a single to benefit Parkinson’s Society UK. Devised by keyboard player Rob Reed, the lyrics came from BIG BIG TRAIN’s singer David Logdon who shared vocal duties with Reed’s MAGENTA colleague Christina Booth. Hackett, who, like Christina and Reed, lost family members to Parkinson’s, liked their demo and added his parts to it, while his regular bassist Nick Beggs and SPOCK’S BEARD’s drummer Nick D’Virgilio provided the rhythmic end to it.
