Watch Your Step
After Steve Marriott‘s tragic death on April 30th, 1991, there’s been a slew of posthumous recordings made available, both of studio and on-stage origins, but the allure of the former Face’s music doesn’t become less strong, because the minute belter always gave his all to a show, and even when the singer’s voice faltered, his guitar playing remained immaculate with all the bands Steve had past SMALL FACES and HUMBLE PIE. The last of those were PACKET OF THREE that Marriott played with from 1985 to his passing, and it’s this ensemble’s tapes that will be released on November 20th as “Watch Your Step – Final Performances ’91”: a four-CD box set documenting a string of the group’s January appearances in the U.K. and Germany. Some fans may know their repertoire from bootlegs, yet only a Frankfurt concert previously had an official edition.
Now remastered and properly presented, it’s a nice addition to any collection as, despite the similar set list, the level of improvisation must be amazing here. As for the tracklist, it runs like this:
