STICK MEN might be a tight conglomerate of musical talent, but the trio’s music is so loose in extemporization stakes that Markus Reuter, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto aren’t averse to occasional expanding of the ensemble ranks and welcoming a guest. First they opened the door for David Cross whose concerts with them were documented on "Midori - Live In Tokyo 2015", and July 21st will see the release of “Roppongi – Live In Tokyo 2017” which is a two-part album comprising the recordings of two complete shows played in Japan on February 21st in the company of another Crimsonite, Mel Collins.
The legendary reeds master’s presence gave familiar numbers a new flavor, yet alongside classics and pieces from the trio’s latest work, "Prog Noir", there are three compositions – the title track, “Ookami” and “Shiro” – that Mel co-wrote with them. As of now, “Roppongi” will be made available only as a digital download, with a CD release secured strictly for Japan, yet one may hope a proper worldwide issue is on the cards as well.
