Terry Hall’s untimely passing in December of 2022 signaled the end of THE SPECIALS, yet the English ensemble’s fans can’t let go of their memories, and when Sky Arts aired the “Live From Coventry Cathedral” film in December 2024, the demand for the recording of the band’s return to the two-tone hometurf to be issued became obvious. And where’s demand there’s supply, so July 10th will see the release of the “Live From The Cathedral” collection.
Culled from the three shows the veterans played in Coventry during their 2019 tour, it’s a hodgepodge of the group’s greatest pieces alongside cuts from the then-recent “Encore” album spread across two discs – but there’s a six-CD box set available from the collective’s website where the three source documents are presented in their entirety. And even though two of those share the running order, none of the Brits’ performances were ever the same, so a lot of joy is guaranteed for all eager to delve in.
