Not a lot of bands have proved to be as influential as CREAM who, in a little more than two years, covered so much of blues-rock territory as to break the ground for generations to come. Yet, while a lot of artists performed the trio’s classics – from Ella Fitzgerald’s take on “Sunshine Of Your Love” to Midge Ure‘s reading of “Strange Brew” and beyond – there were but a few tribute albums dedicated to the supergroup’s music. And none of those could come close to one that will see the release on November 3rd.
Titled “Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute To Cream” and laid down at Abbey Road, this project was not only driven, for several years, by Malcolm Bruce, Jack’s son, but also features, among other stars, CREAM’s own Ginger Baker, making it the legendary drummer’s last-ever recordings, and Pete Brown, who passed away before the album was ready to be out – as did Bernie Marsden, one of the guitarists on this platter. The other axemen on there are Clem Clempson, Joe Bonamassa – the only player who plugged in to fuel his slider – and Peter Bullick, whereas bassists include Neil Murray, and vocals are handled by Bobby Rush, Deborah Bonham, Maggie Bell – two finest British blues dames – and Paul Rodgers. A fantastic prospect! Read the review.
