A legend in prog rock circles and beyond, Nik Turner‘s reeds have been heard on many a record through the years, from such HAWKWIND classics as “Space Ritual” and "Warrior On The Edge Of Time" to the recent DODSON AND FOGG’s release, "Derring Do". The veteran also has a solo career that somehow stalled at the break of the Millenium but is picked up now with a new album, “Space Gypsy,” out in September and featuring fellow travelers: violin player Simon House, another former HAWK, and GONG guitar meister Steve Hillage.
As we reported before, it was prefaced with a “Fallen Angel STS-51-L” single and will be followed by a tour, and now more details have been revealed. The guest list, it turns out, includes also an array of punks: Nicky Garratt of the UK SUBS’ fame, Jeff Piccinini from CHELSEA and DIE KRUPPS’ Jurgen Engler. There will be three formats to the album: a regular CD in a digipak; a limited edition gatefold vinyl with a 7-inch single attached; and even more limited deluxe box set with a bonus CD of rough mixes and instrumental versions, sans Turner’s improvisations, plus 4 postcards, a patch and a pin. The review is here; as for the tracks, they go like this:
1. Fallen Angel STS-51-L
2. Joker’s Song
3. Time Crypt
4. Galaxy Rise
5. Coming Of The Maya
6. We Ride The Timewinds
7. Eternity
8. Anti-Matter
9. The Visitor
10. Something’s Not Right (bonus track)
More so, in addition to a previous video of the aforementioned single, a new one, with Simon House in, has been released – “Time Crypt”:
