The year when HAWKWIND became the space-rock behemoth, 1972 saw the British ensemble bank on the success of "In Search Of Space" by tightening their rhythm section – as Ian Kilmister and Simon King brought in enhanced fierceness to the sonic table – and streamlining their performance. With the single “Silver Machine” shooting up the charts upon its June release, the album titled “Doremi Fasol Latido” which was issued in November seemed destined to succeed as well, and such cuts as “Brainstorm” would settle in the band’s repertoire for decades to come. So there’s no wonder in that platter getting a deluxe treatment in the wake of the box sets for the records preceding and following it.
However, while the deluxe edition of what came before it offered a no-frills experience and the expansion of 1973’a “Space Ritual” went for a whopping 10 CDs + Blu-ray extravaganza, the “Doremi Fasol Latido” reissue, slated for November 8th, feels like a money grab. Of course, having the album’s original cut in remastered version, alongside Stephen W Tayler’s new stereo mix plus assorted singles and a document of the group’s performance at Greasy Truckers Party, is good and dedicating three CDs to these is okay. Only throwing it all, with the addition of Surround Sound variants and a promo clip, not on one but on two Blu-ray discs looks like an attempt to fleece the listener – who, surely, can choose an LP or two-CD options and miss out on the concert recordings, 68-page book and a reproduction of old poster. Unfair – if par for the course for the collective routinely banning fans from the band’s X page and official Facebook group and even having a group for those outcasts
