Even though it would be only logical if the recent reissue of John Lennon‘s "Mind Games" was followed by an expanded edition of his next album, “Walls And Bridges” from 1974, one can ignore the glaring omission from this archival program of the late Beatle’s 1972 output. But if the allure of “Some Time In New York City” is rather limited, the listeners’ interest to “Live In New York City” – which, although recorded soon after that longplay, saw the light only in 1986 – remains undiminished. And chances are the legendary concert will be out quite soon – as suggested by the planned arrival of an EP of the same origin on Record Store Day.
Scheduled for April 12th, the yellow-vinyl four-tracker titled “Power To The People” features selections – three of them previously unreleased – from both afternoon and evening shows that John, Yoko Ono and their PLASTIC ONO BAND played at “Madison Square Garden” on August 30th, 1972 as part of “One to One” benefit concerts. Not counting “Live Peace In Toronto 1969” – a document of their festival outing – NYC performances were Lennon’s only full-length post-Fab gigs, so while this EP is meant to be a collector’s item, the boxed variant of the two appearances – produced by Sean Ono Lennon and mixed and engineered from the original tapes by Paul Hicks and Sam Gannon – feels alluring.
