BIG MAC SERVES UP
Last year saw Paul McCartney start his reissue programme with “Band On The Run”. It’s been known for some time that the next in line would be the Beatle’s complete solo “McCartney” and “McCartney II” spruced up with bonus material and DVDs of which there’s no detail as of now. So it’s quite unexpectedly that before these two out will be, in May, Paul’s not-so-classic “Run Devil Run”, "Driving Rain" and “Chaos And Creation In The Backyard” from the ’90s and ’00s. In present tense, about a month ago McCartney entered a New York studio with producer David Kahne to cut Buddy Holly’s “It’s So Easy” for what could be a tribute album. But then again, no additional info on this one.
A HOLY SHADE OF GRAIL
Bobby Harrison‘s name would have been a footnote in PROCOL HARUM‘s history if the drummer didn’t become an impressive singer with FREEDOM, SNAFU and NOBODY’S BUSINESS. But no matter what many think, Harrison didn’t play on “A Whiter Shade Of Pale”, yet recently recorded the grand hit for his "Anthology", out now on Angel Air. More so, soon the 71-year-old is going to deliver the song live in the company of PROCOL’s original organ meister Matthew Fisher. The last time the two performer together was in 1973, on the latter’s “Journey’s End”…
ON DUSTY ROAD
As we mentioned before, Robin George‘s LOVEPOWER is releasing a single on April 4th, with all the proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support. That same charity, which marks its 100th anniversary this year, is to be a beneficiary of a tribute to the late great Dusty Springfield who was claimed by cancer in 1999. The concert will take place at The Royal Albert Hall on May 5th and see such luminaries as Hazel O’Connor, Kenny Lynch, Shelby Lynne, Rick Astley and DR. HOOK’s Dennis Locorriere pay homage to the soul legend.
STING IN THE TAIL
With their new album, “Forevermore, currently gaining praises around the world, WHITESNAKE are to deliver on their promise to release “Live At Donington 1990” on CD and DVD on June 3rd. The recording preserves David Coverdale‘s band headline spot on the Monsters Of Rock festival with Steve Vai on guitar. Here’s hoping there’ll be more SNAKE videos given an official edition later on, from the classic period. As of now, the tapes will be out in various formats, the DVD having a “Making Of ‘Slip Of The Tongue'” documentary and a slideshow as bonuses.
