DEEP PURPLE’s “Made In Japan” Gets Upgraded Anew

Back in 2014, when DEEP PURPLE‘s “Made In Japan” received a box-set treatment, it seemed like a definitive reissue of the legendary live album which, upon its release in 1972, set a benchmark for onstage recordings. That edition was flawed, though, because, while presenting the tapes from the three nights, the source for the double-LP, didn’t feature the classic selection per se, thus robbing the listeners of original experience. Whether the omission warranted another resurgence of those sets is debatable, yet August 15th is to see a new super deluxe variant of the most loved platter.

Ben Sidran Reports From Paris On Concert Recording

While many elder statesmen slow down their work rate and reap the harvest of their past activities, Ben Sidran sees no reason to follow the suit. And why should the veteran rein in his stream of creativity with albums like 2022’s “Swing State” and “Rainmaker” from 2024 contained music on par with melodies of Sidran’s 1970 solo debut “Feel Your Groove” and of slightly lesser appeal than the songs Ben contributed to the STEVE MILLER BAND canon – like those which comprised about a half of “Brave New World” back in 1969. Still, it’s quite telling that the jazzman’s new concert recording focuses on pieces he composed in this millennium.

Pete Brown’s Early Output To Make A Box Set

Two years ago, Pete Brown‘s passing robbed the world of one of the greatest lyricists – or, rather, poets, because that’s what he was: a British Beatnik without whom many CREAM songs wouldn’t have been so great. But while Peter’s collaborations with Jack Bruce are well-celebrated, even though his contribution to the final PROCOL HARUM album deserved to be known much better, Brown’s own musical oeuvre, with various collectives, is often overlooked – criminally so. Which is why the forthcoming box set of the late wordsmith’s early works should not go unnoticed.

Dee Dee Bridgewater And Bill Charlap Team Up For A Set Of Perennials

They played together many times and proved that there’s nothing they can’t do as a creative pair – because their individual abilities never needed any validation – the only thing Dee Dee Bridgewater and Bill Charlap seemed not prepared to go for was a studio album. Quite obvious why: the legendary chanteuse and acclaimed pianist were afraid to lose their telepathic magic in an almost sterile atmosphere with no live audience to bounce off of in terms of energy. Yet the veterans have finally plucked the courage and laid down a concise, although not on flights of fantasy, set of jazz standards.
