Document Of Gary Brooker Memorial To See Audiovisual Release

Gary Brooker‘s passing on February 19th, 2022 robbed the world of one of the greatest songwriters and a fabulous human being, and staging a concert dedicated to his memory and featuring many of his friends was merely a matter of time. It took quite a long time, though, to arrange for the many musicians to come together and remember their fallen comrade, the star-studded show eventually unfolding on December 4th, 2023, when rock elite, including Roger Taylor and Mike Rutherford, descended on Guildford’s “G Live” for a couple hours of celebrating the life of a legend. And now the recording of that night’s event is ready for release as a deluxe set comprising two CDs, DVD and Blu-ray.

UFO Flesh Out “No Place To Run” For Fresh Reissue

Released in 1980, “No Place To Run” marked the start of a new era for UFO. In the absence of a guitar hero after Michael Schenker had jumped ship, the British ensemble found themselves on a much more even keel, with Phil Mogg and Pete Way’s creative partnership ably supported by input from two Pauls, Raymond and newcomer Chapman, the latter six strings serving songs rather than going for vanity flash. No less important seemed the fact that their nine originals and a cover of “Mystery Train” got produced and mixed by former BEATLES studio team of George Martin and Geoff Emerick which made the results brilliant and commercially successful. And this is why it’s good to hear about the classic album prepared to hit the shelves as a deluxe edition.

Maria Muldaur Returns To Victoria Spivey’s Songbook

The 1964 edition of Newport Folk Festival might be best remembered for the presence of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, yet Maria Muldaur was there as well, watched, without knowing, not only by regular audience but also by Victoria Spivey, a blues warbler of some renown who praised the young songstress’ performance and, later, praised her work. Having learned about that only a few years ago, Muladur, who, in turn, always adored Queen Victoria, delivered Spivey-penned pieces on-stage and included a couple of those into the “Naughty, Bawdy & Blue”back in 2007, decided to dedicate an entire album to the late lady. And soon, the covers of “TB Blues” and “One Hour Mama” will reappear alongside other classics Maria recorded with a lot of gusto.

NATURAL GAS’ Sole Album To See Expansion

As far as supergroups go, NATURAL GAS had more than enough talent to go far – only they didn’t. With bassist Mark Clarke fresh off TEMPEST and ex-BADFINGER guitarist Joey Molland sharing vocal duties, former HUMBLE PIE drummer Jerry Shirley laying down the groove, and experienced session keyboard player Peter Wood enriching textures, plus Felix Pappalardi manning the board, it’s still surprising there wasn’t more than a single album, their 1976 self-titled platter, from the quartet, yet, as their inner dynamic went awry rather soon. “This could have been a really good band, and we had a lot of people behind us,” Mark once explained to this scribe. “But Joey and I were going in different directions.” Still, that sole longplay remains a solid classic, and to see “Natural Gas” released afresh in expanded form will be quite wonderful.

Willie Nile Flies Towards The Light On New Record

There may have been a few gaps in Willie Nile‘s 45-year-long career where his listeners had to wait for quite a long time before the American singer delivered his next album, yet there seemed to be no waiting period longer than three years ever since the veteran’s gotten back on steady track in 2006 – until now. The artist’s 2021’s “The Day the Earth Stood Still” was a solid offering, but looks like the pandemic slightly derailed his plans for a follow-up, so it took Nile a bit more time to get to “The Great Yellow Light” which will see the light of day on June 20th – and should prove no less fascinating.
