Ray Gomez Passed Away

The fabulous Ray Gomez passed away, “one of the greatest to ever do it, a man that redefined modern electric jazz guitar in the late ’70s,” as Joe Bonamassa wrote upon hearing of his departure for the great gig in the sky. Sadly, Ray wasn’t as well-known as his talents deserved, and for most of his life Gomez remained a musician’s musician. Still, while quite many listeners might have first heard of him – or him – on the “Rattlesnake Guitar” album, where Ray paid tribute to Peter Green among other stars, and the connoisseurs remembered Gomez’s playing on Patrick Moraz “The Story Of I” or the song “Mano A Mano” by HALL & OATES, there was much more to him.

Bob Catley Turns Acoustic On “Tales & Whispers”

For all his pomp and circumstance, Bob Catley has never been a stranger to the concept of unplugged album, as MAGNUM’s "Keeping The Nite Light Burning" effectively proved a quarter-century ago. Now that this ensemble ceased to exist in the wake of Tony Clarkin‘s untimely passing, the singer found himself facing the prospect of resuming a solo career which originally ran for a decade, between 1998 and 2008, and span six studio platters and one concert record. And is there a better for the veteran to ease back into the spirit of things than to remind the listener of his finest out-of-the-band moments?

Bob Marley’s Hammersmith Shows From 1976 Up For Release

There’s been several concert recordings from Bob Marley and THE WAILERS issued over the years, starting from the now-classic “Live!” and “Babylon By Bus” that saw the light of day while the great Jamaican was still with us, and each of those is memorable. The best of them arguably was “Live At The Roxy” from 2023, that captured the Caribbean ensemble during their “Rastaman Vibration” tour in 1976, which probably why fans were interested in hearing more – and their hopes should come true soon, when “Roots, Rock, Reggae: Live at the Hammersmith Odeon” will hit the shelves.

Cult Gem By ORANG-UTAN To Get Expanded

It’s a paradox, yet there are cult albums that every collector knows about – or, rather, became aware of some quarter-century after such platters were first released – and ORANG-UTAN‘s self-titled longplay is one of those records. Still, there’s a weird story behind this British band’s sole offering, because the heavy-psych ensemble called themselves HUNTER, and when the quintet endeavored to lay down eight cuts at London’s De Lane Lea Studios in 1970, in a single session, they hoped to hit the big time; instead, their producers absconded with the tapes to the States and issued what turned out as “Orang-Utan” there without telling the musicians.
