Eric Bibb Returns To His Delta Roots

There’s a lot of artists whose delivery of blues sounds natural, but only a previous few remain who do their thing with profound authenticity, and one of those is Eric Bibb who, despite entering this world after the war and spending a significant portion of his life in Europe, sounds as grizzled as many of the genre’s originators. Lately, though, the veteran demonstrated an acute sense of time and mortality, releasing albums in a rather rapid succession – “Dear America” was out in 2021, “Ridin'” appeared two years later, and "In The Real World" emerged in 2024 – and this string of records is about to be updated with another one, which will find the musician explore the Delta strain of it all.

Out on January 30th, “One Mississippi” is comprised of Eric’s fresh cuts, including the “Muddy Waters” single, and the titular cover borrowed from his high school friend Janis Ian’s repertoire, and features a few other of Bibb’s compadres, such as Robbie McIntosh, who played on his previous platter, and the mighty Paul Jones. Feels essential.
