For all the bluster he used to demonstrate with DOKKEN and LYNCH MOB, George Lynch is no stranger to working with female singers. He recorded with Lana Lane and Raven Quinn, yet it’s still surprising that the guitarist, who’s turning 70 on September 28th, has recently delved into a new project with another chanteuse, Casandra Carson of PARALANDRA fame, and the two, hiding behind the CASANDRA’S CROSSING name, prepared an entire album of blistering performances – expectedly heavy, but full of refined melodic sensibilities.

THE 180 Gs Try On “Trout Mask Replica”

While there’s no shortage of a cappella ensembles, most of these, such as PENTATONIX, pander to a mass market tastes, and it’s quite rare that artists like Petra Haden come along to astound the audience with something like the voice-only take on “The Who Sell Out” which don’t even require additional vocalists. This is why all efforts by THE 180 Gs, a collective led by Detroiter David Minnick, feel so interesting – from 2018’s CARDIACS tribute “Singin’ To God” to the recently released “Trout Mask Replica Replica” whose title fully reflects the album’s gist.

Eva Cassidy’s Countrified Concert Unearthed

When Eva Cassidy passed away in 1996 at the age of 33, the world at large didn’t realize it was robbed of an immense talent, what with the American songstress output at that moment consisting of one studio record and one on-stage album. The latter, titled “Live At Blues Alley” and issued five month prior to her death, documented Cassidy’s show in a Washington, D.C. nightclub in January 1996, and none of Eva’s posthumous official releases contained earlier performances. Yet it’s about to change on November 8th, when a dozen-track concert platter “Walkin’ After Midnight” will see the light of day.

LONE JUSTICE Serve Up Their First Album In Almost Four Decades

The success of Maria McKee’s solo output that included such prominent releases as the “Show Me Heaven” single, may have overshadowed the merits of LONE JUSTICE, an American ensemble she was part of back in the ’80s when cowpunk still seemed a thing to latch onto and lap up. Active between 1982 and 1987, the band issued but two platters, an eponymous one in 1985 and “Shelter” a year later, both barely missing Billboard 50, yet May 2024 saw the collective original line-up – the quartet of McKee, guitarist Ryan Hedgecock, bassist Marvin Etzioni and drummer Don Heffington – emerge with an impressive cover of “Teenage Kicks” that turned out to be the first single from the foursome’s third album.

KING CRIMSON Celebrate Semicentennial Anniversary Of “Red”

Given the success that the 50th Anniversary Edition of "Larks' Tongues In Aspic" found with KING CRIMSON aficionados, there’s been little doubt as to whether the band’s tremendous “Red” – their only album to match the punch of "In The Court Of The Crimson King" – would see a similar treatment when its time came. So, while the absence of “Starless And Bible Black” from the reissue schedule should is surprising enough, the plans to put out a new variant of its follow-up on October 11th are not.
