MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP’s Early Output Gets An Anthology

The wait for a new MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP album – which will see contributions from Slash, Axl Rose and Stephen Pearcy – is almost over, yet while it’s still in the pipeline, a box set comprising the collective’s early output is scheduled for issue on March 28th. “Early” in this case means the four platters originally released soon after the band’s leader, the first German musician to become a star within an English ensemble, UFO, had left his brother’s project SCORPIONS and gathered a line-up on his own – the four platters recently remastered anew a fleshed out with additional material, with two bonus discs filled with rarities.

Rick Vito To Ride His Cadillac

He recorded with a veritable who’s who of classic rock, including John Mayall, Roger McGuinn and John Prine, and appeared on such famed platters as Todd Rundgren’s “Something/Anything?” but, of course, Rick Vito‘s most prominent stints were playing guitar, singing and writing for FLEETWOOD MAC between 1987 and 1991 and working with MICK FLEETWOOD’S BLUES BAND. All of this didn’t get in the way of the Grammy-nominated artist’s solo career which started three decades ago and will be continued on March 22nd, when his new album is to be out.

Sean Lennon Takes Off For The Stars

Even though the multitudes tuned into Sean Lennon‘s talent with the release of his brilliant sophomore solo effort “Friendly Fire” in 2006, it’s not sophisticated pop that the scion of stars has been dealing in since then – of had dealt in before then, for that matter. The two THE CLAYPOOL LENNON DELIRIUM albums he masterminded with Les Claypool established the 48-year-old’s prog credentials, which is why there’s no surprise in his desire to strike again in the company of friends now.

STEELEYE SPAN Roll Back The Time For Forgotten Concert

It must have been a tad surrealistic for Americans who happened to be at New York’s famed club “The Bottom Line” around Independence Day of 1974 – on July 2nd, 3rd or 4th – because, instead of patriotic songs, they got treated to English, Irish and Scottish motifs as woven by STEELEYE SPAN who took to the road once again after their recently released sixth album “Now We Are Six” hit the charts in the UK. Not that the expanded line-up featured a lot of fresh material in their set – “Two Magicians” and “Thomas The Rhymer” were the only additions to the band’s repertoire from the new platter – but Maddy Prior and her colleagues performed a few pieces off the previous one, “Parcel Of Rogues” from 1973, and of course, included “Gaudete” which was their Yuletide hit in 1972.

THE BLACK CROWES Paint Over Past

Four years down the line since THE BLACK CROWES got back together for the third time their fans almost ceased to hope to hear new music from the Robinson brothers – the “1972” EP released in 2022 comprised only covers – yet March 15th will find the ensemble’s first full-length studio album since “Before The Frost…Until The Freeze” that was out as far back as 2009. Laid down by Chris and Rich as well as bassist Sven Pipien, plus a few accompanists, “Happiness Bastards” is said to mark their return to the no-frills form of yore.
